Draw the face, ears, and stomach templates on the construction paper. I used circular cups and things to make my lines somewhat straight but you can just hand draw.

Have the kids cut and glue the face, mouth, ears, and tummy on to the bag. Depending on the age group, you may want to cut the pieces ahead of time. Let the kids draw nostrils, eyes (or use googly eyes), and hair in the ears.
Voila! You have your very own puppet friend.

Roll It Up, Don’t Throw It Up Hairstyle

20130803-104128.jpg

I tried a new hairstyle today! I got the idea from Pinterest but because my hair is so thick and curl/wavy, it always looks different and I have to fix it in a different way then some of the tutorials. I did it this morning before work and I got a little over zealous about the hairstyle so I don’t have step-by-step pictures with directions yet. However, I will post tutorial pictures within the next 2-3 days when I have more time to perfect it!

I am loving this style so far! I know it’s kind of old fashioned, but it’s still fun. It’s super nice to wear in the summer instead of throwing it up in the usual ponytail. Plus I always get headaches from having my hair in a ponytail or bun all day and this style is really comfortable and it keeps your neck cool. It’s great for work, class, or even a day or night out. Try it of you like it! Again, I’ll post tutorials soon.

Lion Mask Children’s Craft (ages 3+)

I work with the Children’s programmer at the Library in town and we’re making a lion mask for our safari themed day! I have pictures and steps to help you through the process. Preparation for the craft is tentatively 20-30 minutes; the craft itself (depending on the age group of the children) can take anywhere from 10-25 minutes. Lets get started!

What you will need:
• yellow paper with a hand drawn or traced circle (face), 2 semi-ovals (ears), and 2 small circles inside the face (eyes)
• coffee filter for the mane
• markers or crayons
• scissors
• glue stick or bottle
• Popsicle stick

Color the coffee filter orange (or whatever color you like for the lions mane) before cutting. It’s much easier to color the coffee filter while it’s still one big piece. Then fold it in half and cut the center out leaving about and inch/inch and a half of the edge for the mane.

Cut out the face, ears, and eye holes. (The kids and do all the cutting but I suggest you cut the eyes holes during prep mode for the kids). Draw the nose and whiskers and the mouth, then glue the mane onto the edges of the face. Glue the ears onto the mane after the mane is glued around the face.

Last but not least, glue the popsicle stick to the back side of the mask. Voila! You have your very own lion mask to go with any great safari/zoo/animal theme!

Upon Blogging

I have started something I’ve always been slightly opposed to: blogging. Blogs have always been a spot for people to put down their thoughts, ideas, and fancy photos, to be heard and recognized as someone who is doing something worth while. Bored people, locked behind a screen, yearning to be accepted by those who stumble upon their penniless thoughts. I guess it’s time to put the cynical thoughts behind me and dive in. Or, I can keep thinking these thoughts and just know that I am a great thinker, drinking in my underwear, blogging all my random thoughts. Maybe I’ll come around and realize it’s something more. I’ll take it on as a new adventure. A blind adventure. I will post many great things such as: fashion, makeup, food, books, poetry, photos, and anything or any thought I deem worthy of the cyber world to read.

ONWARD TO BLOGNIA!
